A Better Understanding of the Playlists and the Latest

Facebook

Those who tune in here to Jazz Con Class Radio regularly have a better understanding of the word “playlist” and understand its significance when they visit the “Program Schedule” link. To explain the use of the word “playlist” to those who have recently jumped on board, I ask them to please find out a little more about the historical timeline associated with the Jazz eras and check out the “All Playlist” page. Before I began to broadcast live to the public in 2011, I had to figure out the best way to keep the listeners interested in the most entertaining manner. This was my initial idea of how I could kick-start the station and officially get it up “on the air.” I decided to separate the specific Jazz eras that I believed would cover most of the legendary Jazz musicians ever, specifically the true innovators. The ones who had the most influence in expanding Jazz music in a forward, outward manner. For this reason, I decided to dedicate the music on Jazz Con Class Radio to generally represent and span from the early 50s to the mid 80’s. I also decided to exclude “Jazz Fusion,” but not altogether, there’s still a chance I could change my mind. So all these playlists which are named after Jazz eras (for example Hard Bop, Big Band, Jazz Funk, Avant-Garde, etc) broadcast on their own (automated), unless I intentionally decide to take over the broadcast (in real-time) and add several jazz tunes that I particularly feel the listeners would be interested in at that specific moment (will explain later on).

In addition to these “Jazz Era” typed playlists, I have special Jazz presentations that air on specific days of the week, for example, the very popular “Super Tuesday Jazz Presentation” and the “Saturday Jazz Show.” These two have been with us all from the very start and are a big reason why the station has survived for so long. In addition to those playlists, I have others that represent specific types of Jazz recordings, for example, there’s the “Specialty Playlist,” which concentrates on “Live” recordings and special one-time gatherings of Jazz legends.

A very popular playlist that I desperately created is the “Classy Jazz Playlist” and my official “substitution” for the artificial, meaningless genre that was criminally named “Smooth Jazz.” It was established by the “irresponsible” heads of the major music industry and for the sole purpose of generating money. The word “Jazz” should have never been associated with it. It’s basically “Pop” Rhythm N’ Blues with a robotic use of all sorts of artificial percussion sounds (drum machine). An enormous array of synthetic sound effects are used and directly associated with smooth jazz. There’s absolutely no improvisation taking place, and all the songs are exactly the same, here’s a link where you can download all the sound effects if you are interested. Smooth Jazz is a total disgrace and a direct insult to the true Jazz fan. Remember, my fellow Jazz Aficionados, this fight against “popularizing” music has been going on throughout the history of mankind. Long LIVE JAZZ!

In addition to the previously mentioned playlists above, the Jazz Aficionados listeners here will be very much entertained by the the “Classified Jam Session.” This playlist broadcasts the complete week, it can be from 1 hour to 3 hours in length and is featured in different time zones throughout the week it plays. So please make it your priority to occasionally check the “Program Schedule Link” because it will be the only way to discover “when” all these particular playlists will be airing. I encourage all the Jazz Con Class Radio listeners to please express their personal opinions and/or interject any ideas they have to further improve the quality of the playlists. The listeners can comment below or simply send me a direct message through the feedback link.
